Amrita Pritam (31 August 1919 – 31 October 2005) born as Amrit Kaur in 1919 in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab. Known as the most important voice for the women in Punjabi literature, she became the first woman to win the Sahitya Akademi Award, later she received Bharatiya Jnanpith, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan.
